Willem Jan van Balen
Willem Jan van Balen is a marine artist whose fascination with the sea and the sky arises from a longing for purity, simplicity, and light.
Born in 1973, he spent his formative years until the age of 12 in Oostvoorne, a coastal town on the North Sea coast of the Netherlands. He pursued painting studies in Rotterdam and, alongside his artistic endeavours, he also serves as an art history teacher.
Using acrylic paint on linen, he employs a combination of wet-on-wet and glazing techniques. His artistic focus revolves around capturing the interplay of light, subtle reflections, and the dynamic movement of the waves. His paintings serve as a window of tranquility amid the bustle of modern life.
