Sarah Hornby

Born and raised on the shores of Poole Harbour, the sea is the epicentre of everything that Sarah creates. Formerly, a full time sailor, Sarah made her living on board yachts in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, before joining the Oman Sail project where she coached female offshore sailors. She then skippered a female ocean rowing team, which rowed across the Atlantic Ocean.

Sarah now resides back in Poole with her husband, two children, dog and cat. She has a garden studio where she spends her time painting. Her inspiration is taken from the racing boats in the harbour, the views from the water's edge and the elements which shape this famous shoreline. Her knowledge of racing and weather systems mean that her creations instill the notion of being at sea, they draw fellow sea farers in to the canvas, and conjure up great nostalgia and memories of storms, horizons, haunting ships in sea mist, wrecks, busy start lines and perfect shapes of classic racing yachts.
