Hugh Fairfax

Traditional seascapes and depictions of coastal life

Hugh Fairfax was born in 1958 and has been a regular visitor to the Island all his life. The sea has been a constant theme in his work, reflecting the colours, textures and activity found there, both human and animal. Although he has instinctively drawn and painted from his very earliest years, he attended art school in Cambridge and owes much to his good friend and mentor Albany Wiseman, the noted illustrator and watercolourist.

In a major change of direction, Hugh's most recent work explores the effects of light upon water and the reflections that result. These large framed artworks are minutely observed and capture a fleeting moment of beauty. His work ranges from traditional seascapes to depictions of coastal life. All capture the essence of what it means to live and work near the sea.

Hugh exhibits regularly at a number of well-known galleries in the UK and is now represented in Laguna Beach, California by La Bottega dell'Acquaforte.
