Julie Sajous

Although a native Islander Julie started her creative career as Fashion Designer in New York. Since then Julie has worked as a potter, a carnival artist and a lecturer . The one common thread throughout has been a love of colour and Julie likes putting together combinations that are perfectly balanced, whether calming or vibrant. Working in acrylics affords Julie the flexibility to layer glazes, texture, collage and generally mixing up the media. Julie is also enjoying a step towards a semi-abstract style.

Julie's paintings nearly always take their inspiration from the sea and the coast, both from the Island and from her time living in South West France. She is also very influenced by what is scattered about on the shoreline, from abandoned hulls to old fishing gear, rocks and pebbles to rope and fenders.

The studio where Julie works and teaches from is a light-filled and quirky converted 80's mobile home in the West Wight.
